Scotland Highlands Itinerary

Day 1 - Depart Home

Your vacation begins when you board your overnight flight to Glasgow. Plan your flight to arrive in the morning so you will have free time to relax or explore **Remember you are flying home from Edinburgh.

Day 2 - Arrive Glasgow, Scotland

Today arrive at the Glasgow import and take the shuttle to our hotel. This most vibrant and exciting of Scottish cities boasts excellent museums, art galleries, beautiful parks and buildings as well as having shopping

Your singles hostess will meet you in the hotel lobby at 7:00 pm for a meet and greet and an optional dinner.

Day 3 - Glasgow, Scotland

Today we explore Glasgow aboard an open-top double-decker bus. The city tour will take us from George Square in the city centre to the West End to admire Glasgow’s historic university buildings, River Clyde, City Chambers, Glasgow Green and People’s Palace. We will hop off at the impressive Glasgow Cathedral – the only mainland Scottish Cathedral to have survived the Reformation intact. It is the oldest building in Glasgow, dating from the end of the 13th century.

With great views from the top of the bus, strategically placed stops and an interesting commentary, this truly is the best way to see the sights of Glasgow.

Tonight enjoy our Welcome Dinner at a local pub. 

After breakfast we depart Glasgow and travel along Loch Lomond, the largest surface area of fresh water Loch in the UK. 24 miles long and five miles wide and at its deepest point is some 600 feet deep, has approximately 38 Islands.

We travel to Tarbet on the western shore of Loch Lomond, the ideal location to board our cruise and explore the dramatic fjord northern end of the Loch. After the cruise we will take a short walk to enjoy the natural beauty and stop for a picnic lunch.

Next we visit Inveraray Castle, built between 1745 and 1790 and still home to the Duke of Argyll, Head of the Clan Campbell, whose family have lived in Inveraray since the early 15th century. Inveraray Castle provides visitors with a fascinating historical insight into one of Scotland's most famous ancestral homes.

Our drive continues via Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe, a peaceful and beautiful valley, believed to be a scene of a massacre, when the local MacDonalds were murdered by soldiers of the Campbell clan in 17th century, to our hotel in Fort William.

Day 5 - Isle of Skye to Inverness

Our vacation continues as we take the ferry from Mallaig to the Isle of Skye.

There is something about Skye that will stay with you forever. It may be the classic picturesque mountain range of the Cullin Mountains which dominate the western skyline of the isle, or the towering sea cliffs, the velvet moors, the magnificent sea views or the sleepy Highland villages. Whatever it is this is a wonderful region steeped in mythology, history, legends and fairies. We will drive trough part of the Island and return to the mainland by bridge, stopping for photos at the picturesque Eilean Donan Castle.

Then we travel along Loch Ness famous for its resident - Nessie, the exceedingly friendly, though unfortunately extremely elusive, Loch Ness monster.

We will stop for photos at Urquhart Castle, magnificently sited, overlooking Loch Ness, it is one of the largest castles in Scotland, with a long and colourful history. Built in the 1230s, seized by the English in 1296, sacked by the MacDonald Lords of the Isles in 1545 and left to fall into decay after 1689.

Day 6 – Inverness - Highlands of Scotland

After breakfast enjoy the stunning landscapes and scenery of the Highlands.

We will visit Leault Farm and watch a Sheepdog demonstration, see up to eight dogs working as a team maneuvering sheep and ducks through various obstacles. Watch demonstrations of sheep shearing and glimpse the hard work and skill that keeps a Highland farm going.

Then we continue to Culloden Moor. With over 1,200 dead in just one hour Culloden was a short but bloody battle – the last to be fought on British soil. With the site restored to as close as possible to that seen by the forces on that fateful day in April 1746, Culloden now welcomes visitors with an impressive new modern visitor centre and exciting interactive exhibition.

Day 7 – Inverness to Gairloch – Whale Watching Cruise

Today we travel to the Northwest coast of Scotland for a Whale watching cruise. Of course the best chance of seeing whales and dolphins is to travel to their feeding grounds, and that means an offshore voyage. We will travel out of Loch Gairloch and into the vast open waters of the North Minch, between the mainland and the Western Isles.

Day 8 – Inverness to Edinburgh

Today we say goodbye to the Highlands as we depart Inverness and travel towards Edinburgh.

Our first stop is the picturesque town of Pitlochry. It is largely a Victorian town that has retained many stone-built Victorian buildings and the main street has an unusual period cast iron canopy over one side.

Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s most magnificent, built on a rocky outcrop and commanding a view for many miles around. It was built as an almost impregnable fortification, and visitors can explore many aspects of its long military history, particularly during the Wars of Independence in the 1300s. But it was also an important and luxurious royal palace. Visitors today can gain an insight into the life of Scotland’s royal court, especially that of James V.

Day 9 – Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland since the 15th Century. Edinburgh stands on 7 hills creating a dramatic skyline.

After breakfast we visit Edinburgh Castle. which dominates the city-centre skyline. Visit the room where Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth to King James VI, admire Mons Meg-a giant 15th century siege gun and learn about the famous One O’Clock Gun. The most important exhibits are the Honours of Scotland – the magnificent Crowned Sceptre and the Sword of State which are the oldest Crown jewels in the British Isles and the Stone of Destiny, the enigmatic symbol of nationhood used to inaugurate monarchs of Scotland, England and the United Kingdom for more than 1000 years.

Time for shopping and lunch along the Royal Mile before we join our 3 hour walking tour covering all the main sights of the Old City of Edinburgh. Starting on the famous Royal Mile, we will walk through the windy streets and up the hills to sites of executions, cloned sheep and the birthplace of Harry Potter.

Tonight we celebrate our final evening at Jamie’s Scottish Evening. Enjoy the finest of traditional Scottish music, song, and dance . Relish the entertainment, including Highland piper and dancers, and a four course Scottish banquet with a chance to sample the famous Haggis.

Day 10 - Depart Edinburgh, Scotland

After a final breakfast we have to say goodbye to Scotland and all our new single travel friends as we are transferred to the airport and our flights home.
