July 4th Singles Adventure Weekend
Friday, July 1 - Charleston, West Virginia - Oak Hill, WV We will be picked up at 10:00 a.m.
from the Hampton Inn (pre-trip hotel) and transferred to the New River Gorge in Oak Hill, WV. Time for lunch and to
check in to our hotel before we start our 3:00pm Scenic Gorge Horseback Ride.
There is no better way to begin our adventure weekend then on a Guided Horseback Riding
Trip in West Virginia. New River Gorge National River provides a variety of different forest trails and superb
overlooks and our trail guide will lead us through a myriad of scenic gorge trails on our 2 1/2 hour horseback
riding trip.
We will stop and stretch our legs while enjoying the panoramic views from the top...
because our next days adventures will find us rafting through the rapids at the bottom of the New River Gorge.
Enjoy dinner before we head back to our hotel for a good nights rest.
Saturday, July 2 - Full Day - Whitewater Rafting -
Upper New River
The New River Gorge National River is known as the
"Grand Canyon of the East". It is a place of wonder where natural beauty and rich cultural history are waiting
to be discovered. And the whitewater is fantastic! The river flows are unpredictable.
Keeping tabs on the weather and river levels, adjustments are constantly made to catch the best ride out
there. From low to high, it’s a good ride whether you’re in a raft on the Upper or Lower River.
The Upper New River is the perfect first time rafting experience as
it takes us through scenic canyons on relatively calm water with a few easy rapids. There is
plenty of time to relax, swim and explore numerous ghost towns along the way while enjoying some of the most
spectacular scenery the New River has to offer.
Think whitewater rafting is only for the
extreme? Think again. Gentle and playful, the Upper New River is a wonderfully diverse section of river that
appeals to all ages. Duckies, are challenging to learn to control and paddle through the small rapids.
Paddling the duckies is encouraged and instruction is provided.
This really is a fun way to negotiate this beautiful stretch of the river. Bask in the sun. Breathe deeply the
fresh air of your breathtaking surroundings. Pull your friend back in his "ducky" after Rudy's Ripple.
Allow waves to crash over or under you. Take a short hike to a waterfall or jump off the New River's notorious
"jump rock." Calm pools are interspersed between the rapids allowing opportunities to float and
swim without the boat.

Dinner will be onsite at our rafting
lodge.
Sunday, July 3 - Full Day - Whitewater Rafting
- Lower New River
Today we are all experienced Whitewater Rafters so let's get more adventurous. We will
navigate the biggest rapids the New River has to offer such as Surprise, Keeney Brothers, Double Z and
Greyhound Bus Stopper.
Big, fast, playful and fun, the Lower New River is a whitewater roller coaster ride of towering, crashing waves.
With more than 25 Class II to Class IV+ rapids, including thumpers like The Keeneys, Upper and Lower Railroad,
Greyhound Bus-Stopper, and Double-Z, the Lower New offers enough thrills and adventure for any enthusiast. One of
the oldest rivers in the world, the "New" cuts its bed from the rugged West
Virginia hills, winding through the 1,000 foot gorge known far and wide as The Grand Canyon of the East -- a
breathtaking sight in her spring, summer, or fall colors. Historic mining ghost towns pepper the gorge's walls.
Calm pools between rapids give you a chance to take a swim, and to enjoy the awesome scenery and the abundance of
wildlife... from beaver to cardinal flowers to whitetail deer.

White Water Rafting FAQ
Do I need any Rafting Experience?
Prior rafting experience is not required. The majority of
people who join our expeditions are first time rafters. You'll receive a detailed safety talk
before getting on the river, and it will cover every aspect of your river adventure. Once trained,
an oar or paddle crew can work in harmony with their guide to maneuver a raft in the most
challenging rapids. It's only natural for you to be apprehensive about running rivers, however our
staff is specially trained to address your concerns and prepare you for an experience you'll never
forget. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING AND WEAR?
You will be the most comfortable in things that dry quickly. If the weather is warm,
and that is most typical, dress to get wet. Swimsuits, shorts and T-shirts are fine. Appropriate
footwear is a must. Old pair of tennis shoes or the Teva-type sport sandals (the guides choice of
footwear) is best. Wool socks or no socks. If it is expected to be a cool day, rule number one is
COTTON IS WRONG! A wool sweater or fleece jacket is good to have along on any raft trip. They offer
a complete line of clean wetsuits, spray jackets and river boots in our office for a nominal rental
fee. Again, expect to get wet!
Do Trips Run If It's Raining?
All trips run rain or shine.
Only rarely do we cancel due to high water. In the unlikely event that we cancel a trip, a full
refund will be offered. Any person choosing not to participate because of weather will not be
eligible for a refund or rain check.
Do I Have To Know How To Swim?
No! Every person on the trip will be issued a type V Personal Flotation Device better
known as a life jacket. These devices are designed to float your head above the surface of the
water even if you do not know how to swim.
